Sharing The Future Okavango research results

The film „Sharing The Future Okavango research results“ was conceived, filmed and directed by the TFO para-ecologists Mukuya Robert, Miguel S. Hilario and Kwamovo Meshack to communicate some of the project’s research results to rural dwellers in Angola, Namibia and Botswana. The film is the outcome of a participatroy film workshop organised by Ute Schmiedel (University of Hamburg), Martin Gruber (University of Bremen) and Vilho Mtuleni (SASSCAL Windhoek).

Honey-Huchi

The interdisciplinary research project "The Future Okavango" (TFO) is dedicated to supporting sustainable land use and resource management in the Okavango Basin of the countries Angola, Botswana and Namibia with scientific knowledge. The region under investigation, a system of woodland savannas, floodplains and extended wetlands is of crucial global importance for biological diversity. The film “Honey” depicts the process of honey production and consumption. It was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from the Cusseque area of Angola for TFO to communicate this important aspects of their use of natural resources and discuss related issues. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with TFO para-ecologist Miguel Hilario in Cusseque in September and October 2013

Sephiri sa Tikologo ya Rona - The Secret of Our Environment

The film "The Secret of Our Environment" was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from Seronga, Botswana for TFO to communicate aspects of their relationship with the natural environment and discuss related problems - within the project and to a wider audience. Focussing on the complex interplay between wildlife, tourism, fishing and farming, the film shows how natural resources are an integral part of the rural population’s everyday lives. The film consists of interviews and two re-enacted sequences in which the workshop participants demonstrate important activities to the audience in a playful and humorous way. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with TFO para-ecologist Meshsack Kwamovo in Seronga in February and March 2013.

The Future Okavango (TFO)

This film introduces the TFO project that is dedicated to improve sustainable landuse management in the Okavango region of Angola, Namibia and Botswana, featuring interviews with local farmers and Prof. Norbert Jürgens, the head of the project. Attention is drawn to the vulnerability of the system and how it is affected by current and future anthropogenic pressures. The Okavango is the major lifeline for the people in the region. It is therefore paramount that solutions are found to alleviate some of the pressures by adapting to change.

Liparu Lyetu - Our Life

The film "Liparu Lyetu – Our Life" was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from the Mashare Area of Namibia for TFO in order to communicate their land-use strategies to the project and to a wider audience. The film shows the different ways in which natural resources contribute to the rural population’s livelihoods and discusses related problems. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with Raphael Sinkumba and TFO para-ecologist Robert Mukuya in Mashare in May and June 2011.
