Description The overall goal of the SABSP is to improve co-operation and to build capacity both within and between participating nations and to integrate sustainable use into biodiversity conservation and other sectoral programmes and has the following immediate objectives. It will improve the availability and accessibility of biodiversity information and its application in conservation, planning and management; promote cross-sectoral national and regional co-operation in biodiversity conservation and sustainable use activities; develop national and regional institutional capacity for co-ordination and implementation of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use activities; integrate effective practices of sustainable natural resource use into national and regional conservation and other sectoral planning and programmes; and develop financing mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of the regional support framework. Both the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADAR) and the Ministry of Urban Affairs and Environment ministries of agriculture (MINUA) will be involved at the national level. The project steering committee will ensure that synergies in capacity building, policy processes and knowledge management are identified and utilized for the benefit of both projects and the country’s environment.
